Huawei Technologies, based in China, is gearing up to evaluate its latest and most advanced artificial intelligence processor. This innovation aims to rival the premium products of Nvidia, the leading US chip manufacturer.
According to the report, Huawei has invited several Chinese tech firms to assess the technical capabilities of the new chip, named Ascend 910D, citing individuals familiar with the development.
Huawei anticipates that the upgraded version of its Ascend AI processors will outperform Nvidia’s H100 model. The initial batch of processor samples is expected to be delivered by late May, the report further mentioned.
According to reports, Huawei is set to commence mass shipments of its advanced 910C artificial intelligence chip to Chinese customers as early as next month.
For years, Huawei and other Chinese tech firms have faced challenges in competing with Nvidia’s high-performance chips, which are crucial for training AI models—a process that involves feeding data into algorithms to enhance decision-making accuracy.
In an effort to curb China’s technological progress, particularly in military applications, the United States has restricted access to Nvidia’s most advanced AI products, including its flagship B200 chip. The H100 chip, for instance, was prohibited from sale in China by U.S. authorities in 2022 prior to its official launch.
While Nvidia declined to comment on the matter, Huawei did not provide an immediate response to Reuters’ request for a statement.
