Baidu has reportedly introduced its AI agent, Xinxiang, for Android devices as of Wednesday. The company describes this mobile-focused tool as a significant enhancement over traditional AI chatbots in terms of gathering and analyzing information. Currently accessible on Android smartphones in China, there is no confirmation on whether the AI agent will be launched internationally. An iOS version is reportedly under review, with a potential release anticipated in the coming weeks.
Xinxiang AI Agent Launches on Android
According to Reuters, Baidu has rolled out its Xinxiang app for Android devices in China. Since the Google Play store is not available in the region, users can access the app through platforms like Tencent Myapp, Huawei AppGallery, and Baidu Mobile Assistant. The app is reportedly free to download, though it’s unclear whether it includes in-app purchases or a premium subscription option.
The report suggests that the app can handle tasks such as information analysis and travel planning, although its complete feature set remains unspecified. Additionally, these tasks do not fully align with agentic capabilities, which typically involve autonomous task execution and interaction with other software or hardware components.
It is suggested that the AI agent might have the ability to autonomously access users’ files and internal data to deliver tailored and comprehensive responses. Baidu reportedly asserts that Xinxiang offers greater efficiency compared to traditional AI-powered chatbots.
While the Android version of the app is currently available for download, the iOS version is reportedly undergoing App Store review. Following approval from Apple, Baidu is expected to release Xinxiang for iOS.
The AI agent’s launch follows Baidu’s recent release of two advanced models: the flagship Ernie 4.5 and the reasoning-centric Ernie X1. Ernie 4.5 is a multimodal large language model (LLM) capable of processing text, images, audio, and video, with reportedly improved contextual understanding. Meanwhile, Ernie X1 is designed to offer enhanced support for tool usage.
