As tensions escalate in the ongoing Israel-Iran war, Nobitex, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Iran, has suffered a devastating cyberattack, resulting in the loss of over $81 million in digital assets. The attack is reportedly linked to hacker group Gonjeshke Darande, which is suspected to have ties to Israel.
Earlier today, Nobitex disclosed that it had detected unauthorized access to its reporting infrastructure and hot wallet. In response, the platform swiftly restricted access, reassuring users that their assets remained secure.
Investigative crypto analyst ZachXBT later revealed additional details, asserting that at least $81 million had been stolen, affecting users across Tron and various EVM-compatible blockchains. A portion of the funds was allegedly siphoned off through “vanity addresses,” with one wallet alone losing $49 million.
Gonjeshke Darande, also known as Predatory Sparrow, has since claimed responsibility for the hack, stating that Nobitex facilitated financial transactions for the Iranian government to evade sanctions. The group has threatened to release the exchange’s internal source code and data within 24 hours, warning users of potential exposure.
Meanwhile, amid speculation over mediation efforts, former U.S. President Donald Trump denied involvement in any peace negotiations between Iran and Israel, dismissing reports as fabricated.
