In a major step forward for cryptocurrency adoption, Jeff Bezos’ space company Blue Origin has announced it will now accept digital assets as payment for commercial spaceflights. The company emphasized that cryptocurrencies offer a more seamless and efficient payment experience, benefiting both customers and the business.

Bitcoin and More Now Accepted for New Shepard Flights

Partnering with Shift4 Payments, Blue Origin revealed that customers can now pay for trips aboard its New Shepard spacecraft using Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, USDT, and USDC. This new payment option is available immediately for all upcoming flights, marking a significant milestone in merging space tourism with digital finance.

Wallet Integration and Immediate Availability

To make the process even more convenient, Blue Origin will support popular crypto wallets such as MetaMask and Coinbase. This integration allows users to complete transactions securely and quickly, aligning with the growing demand for flexible digital payment solutions.

Crypto’s Role in the Future of Payments

Shift4’s Head of Crypto, Alex Wilson, commented on the announcement by highlighting the rapid growth of the crypto market, now valued at over four trillion dollars. He noted that digital currencies are poised to become a mainstream payment method, offering financial advantages to both consumers and merchants.

Blue Origin’s move follows other major developments in the crypto payment space. PayPal recently enabled crypto transactions for U.S. merchants, aiming to reduce traditional credit card fees. Interestingly, this announcement comes after Tron founder Justin Sun paid $28 million for a seat on New Shepard, though not with crypto.
