OpenAI to Reduce Microsoft’s Revenue Share Following Restructuring

OpenAI Revises Partnership Terms Amid Strategic Shift

OpenAI is reportedly planning to reduce the share of revenue it provides to Microsoft as part of its restructuring efforts. Currently, OpenAI shares 20% of its revenue with Microsoft under an agreement that runs through 2030. However, the company has informed investors that it intends to halve that figure to 10% by the end of the decade.

This move comes as OpenAI scales back a significant restructuring plan, opting to retain control under its nonprofit parent organization. The decision is expected to limit CEO Sam Altman’s influence over the firm while allowing OpenAI to secure additional funding to remain competitive in the AI space.

Microsoft, which has invested billions in OpenAI, is reportedly seeking continued access to OpenAI’s technology beyond 2030. The tech giant has also revised key terms of its agreement with OpenAI following the announcement of Project Stargate, a joint venture with Oracle and SoftBank to build a $500 billion AI data center in the United States.

OpenAI has stated that it continues to work closely with Microsoft and looks forward to finalizing the details of its recapitalization soon.
