Mistral Code, an advanced AI-driven coding assistant, was unveiled by the company on Wednesday. The Paris-based AI firm emphasized that the platform is specifically tailored for enterprise developers, aiming to enhance their productivity in coding and deployment. Powered by proprietary AI models, it provides businesses with the flexibility to customize and integrate the system according to their needs. This launch comes just two weeks after Mistral introduced Devstral, its open-source coding agent designed for software development tasks.
Mistral Code Operates on Four AI Models
In an official newsroom post, the company outlined the capabilities of its latest coding assistant. Mistral Code is built upon the open-source Continue project, offering the precise controls and transparency that enterprises demand. Currently in private beta for JetBrains IDEs and VSCode, it is expected to be widely available soon.
The platform boasts several key features, including an integrated development environment (IDE) assistant embedded within the virtual system, options for local deployment, and compatibility with enterprise tools. It is powered by four proprietary large language models (LLMs), ensuring robust functionality for enterprise-level coding.
Codestral will enhance code completion, while Codestral Embed will enable efficient code search and retrieval. Likewise, Mistral Code will leverage Devstral for agent-based coding and Mistral Medium for comprehensive chat assistance. Enterprises will also have the flexibility to fine-tune or post-train the AI models on private repositories and create lightweight variants suited to their needs.
Mistral Code Gains Adoption Across Leading Enterprises
Mistral emphasized that multiple organizations have already integrated and deployed Mistral Code within their operations. Among them are Spain-based bank Abanca, the French state-owned railway company SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français), and global IT powerhouse Capgemini.
